Phnom Penh: On May 18, Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, presided over the handover ceremony of the achievements of the Integrated Mine Clearance and Mine Disabled Assistance Project, Phase 2, and the opening of the project, Phase 3, under the grant funding of the Japanese government, at the CMAC Development Center “Morodok Techo” in Kas Kral district, Battambang province. According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed his deep gratitude for the generous assistance from the people and government of Japan to support the integrated mine clearance and mine disabled relief project, phase 2, with a budget of 2,000 million yen, approximately more than 17 million US dollars to support mine and UXO clearance operations and to help people disabled by landmines by helping to build rural road infrastructure, with priority given to three provinces: Pursat, Battambang and Pailin, and a new phase 3 project with a budget of 1,700 million yen, or more than 11 million US dollars, in Pursat, Battambang and Koh Kong.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highly appreciated and sincerely praised all mine clearance units for their efforts to clear more than 3,542 square kilometers of land and find and destroy more than 4.5 million anti-personnel mines of all types, of which the CMAC unit cleared approximately 2,136 square kilometers of land for people to farm for a living.
