Second Mekong-Lancang Library receives interest from two Chinese foundations

Kandal Province: On the morning of May 18, 2026, representatives of the China Peaceland Foundation and the China Foundation for Rural Development visited the Mekong-Lancang Library No. 2, located on the campus of Hun Sen Prey Toeng Primary School, Khpop Commune, Saang District, Kandal Province, to understand the process of developing the reading sector and improving the learning environment for local students.

On that occasion, Mr. Liu Wenzhi, representative of China Peaceland Foundation and Mr. Zhang Shenyue, representative of China Foundation for Rural Development, and the delegation were warmly welcomed by Mr. Lao Van, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, as well as local leaders, teachers, and many students. The visit program demonstrated the Chinese side’s attention to the development of human resources in Cambodia, especially supporting the education sector and reading culture in rural areas. At the same time, through His Excellency Kemroth Viseth  The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Civil Society Alliance Forum of the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) donated 7 sets of sports equipment to Hun Sen Prey Toeng Primary School.

On behalf of the people of Saang District, the students of Hun Sen Prey Toeng Primary School Mr. Sen Souphay, Deputy Governor of Sa Ang District, said that with the assistance of the China International Book Publishing Center through the Cambodia-China Development Research Association, the second Mekong-Lancang Library was built with the aim of creating an attractive reading environment, facilitating research and promoting the habit of reading books among children and youth. By improving the library’s aesthetics and providing reading materials, the library is becoming an important learning space for students in the community.

Mr. Lao Van thanked the Chinese Embassy for their attention and support, as well as relevant partners, for contributing to the development of the local library. He stated that investing in education and literacy is an investment in the future of Cambodia’s human resources and sustainable development.

The visit of the two Chinese foundations throughout the morning truly reflected the strong friendship and cooperation between the people of Cambodia and China. Especially under the framework of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation, which continues to focus on developing education, culture, and improving the quality of life of local people.
