Phnom Penh: On the morning of May 19, 2026, the Ministry of Rural Development organized a consultation workshop on the “Draft Rural Road Infrastructure Development Strategy Plan 2026-2033” under the chairmanship of Mr. Chhay Riththi Sen, Minister of the Ministry of Rural Development.

In his opening speech, Mr. Chhay Riththi Sen emphasized that the Ministry of Rural Development has been focusing on improving the quality and sustainable maintenance of rural roads to connect and integrate the economic, social, and cultural sectors between rural areas, towns, and cities, connecting various business activities to be more vibrant and active, which is the foundation for increasing family income in rural areas, as the slogan “There is a road, there is hope” and also contributes significantly to boosting the efficiency of the logistics sector. In this regard, the Ministry has made many reforms in the construction of quality rural roads to ensure resilience to climate change and that rural families can use them in all seasons.

A consultation workshop was held with a brief presentation on the draft rural road infrastructure development strategy plan 2026-2033 by Mr. Pheng Sambo, Director of the Department of Planning and Public Relations. At the same time, the workshop held a lively discussion on the draft strategic plan and participated in providing comments, which are additional important inputs, making the draft more comprehensive and becoming a legal document and roadmap for use in developing rural road infrastructure.

After the presentation and discussion, Mr. Chhay Rithsen expressed his appreciation and high appreciation to the working group for their efforts in preparing the draft of the Rural Road Infrastructure Development Strategy 2026-2033, and thanked the entire workshop for participating in the discussion and providing active input in this important workshop, so that the preparation of this strategic plan would be more comprehensive. Before concluding, HE the Minister instructed the technical working group responsible for preparing the draft strategic plan to review and incorporate all inputs received from the participants and provided some recommendations so that the 2026-2033 Rural Road Infrastructure Development Strategic Plan can be implemented successfully and realistically to achieve the National Policy on Rural Development 2025-2035.
