Traffic accident update in Kampong Chhnang and Svay Rieng: Ministry of Labor says 85 people have recovered and returned home while medical professionals continue to provide direct attention to hospitals

Phnom Penh: As of 9 am on May 28, 2026, 85 workers have recovered and returned home, while the remaining 25 injured, both seriously and lightly, are receiving treatment and are in good condition overall. This was stated by Mr. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.

Mr. Sun Mesa said that in the case of Kampong Chhnang province, 57 workers returned home. While 9 people were seriously injured and 7 were lightly injured, and are still receiving treatment at the hospital. In the case of Svay Rieng province, 28 workers have returned home, while 1 seriously injured person was sent by his family to be treated in Vietnam, and 8 people with minor injuries are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

He said: “The ministry is happy with the relief and recovery of the workers, which allows them to return home in a row, while the workers are receiving attention from the medical team and experts of the ministry, as well as the NRC.”

Please note that two traffic accidents that occurred simultaneously on the morning of May 23, 2026 in Kampong Chhnang and Svay Rieng provinces resulted in the deaths of 14 workers and the injury of approximately 100 others.

Please note that since the traffic accident, Minister Heng Sour, the ministry’s leadership and experts under the advice of the Royal Government have been organizing, coordinating the funeral and providing benefits to the workers and employees immediately and with care.
