Deputy Prime Minister Vongsi Vissoth: Peace is the foundation of development and poverty reduction

Phnom Penh: Mr. Vongsy Visoth, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of the Council of Ministers, said that peace is the foundation of development and poverty reduction, and Cambodia has restored peace, opened up its economy, and integrated into the region and the world.

At the 2026 Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum under the theme “Uniting Global Efforts to Advance Poverty Reduction” in Beijing, China, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Vongsy Visoth said that China’s success in poverty reduction is an outstanding development achievement in modern times, having lifted more than 800 million Chinese people out of poverty in the past four decades.

In this regard, Cambodia welcomes the Global Partnership for Poverty Alleviation and Development (GPPAD), a global platform for sharing experiences and learning from each other, as poverty reduction remains at the core of the global 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, drawing ever closer.

The Deputy Prime Minister also shared Cambodia’s experience with the Global Forum, highlighting that “peace is the foundation of development and poverty reduction.” Under the able leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Cambodia has restored peace, economic openness, and regional and global integration. This peace has given the Cambodian people confidence that “tomorrow will be better than yesterday.” The Deputy Prime Minister said that currently, under the visionary and realistic leadership of His Excellency Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Royal Government of Cambodia has been promoting the implementation of the “Phase 1 Pentagon Strategy” by continuing to put the people at the core and as the first priority, and to make growth more meaningful for the daily lives of the people, especially in rural areas, by raising incomes, creating decent jobs, investing in human capital, and strengthening social protection systems, as well as building partnerships that deliver tangible results.
