Traffic accident update in Kampong Chhnang and Svay Rieng: Ministry of Labor says nearly 90 recovered people have returned home while medical professionals continue to provide direct care to hospitals

Phnom Penh: As of 5:00 PM on May 28, 2026, nearly 90 workers have recovered and returned home, while the remaining 23 injured, both seriously and lightly, are receiving treatment and are in good condition overall. This was stated by Mr. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.

Mr. Sun Mesa said that in the case of Kampong Chhnang province, 57 workers returned home. While 9 people were seriously injured and 7 were lightly injured, and are still receiving treatment at the hospital. In the case of Svay Rieng province, 30 workers have returned home, while 1 seriously injured person was sent by his family to be treated in Vietnam, and 6 people with minor injuries are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

He said: “The ministry is happy with the relief and recovery of the workers, which allows them to return home in a row, while the workers are receiving attention from the medical team and experts from the ministry, as well as the National Health Commission.”

Please note that two traffic accidents that occurred simultaneously on the morning of May 23, 2026 in Kampong Chhnang and Svay Rieng provinces resulted in the deaths of 14 workers and the injury of approximately 100 others, both serious and minor.

Please note that immediately after the traffic accident, Minister Heng Sour, the leadership of the ministry and the relevant officials, as the chief of staff to the Royal Government, immediately coordinated the funeral and provided benefits to the workers and employees with care.
