Phnom Penh: Cambodian citizens have died from cluster munitions left over from the Siamese invasion of Cambodia in the past.

Mr. Heng Ratana, the Royal Government Delegate in Charge of the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), said the explosion occurred On May 28, 2026, there was a case where a citizen lost his life due to an accident while cutting firewood and hitting a cluster bomb that exploded at the same place.

He said that the cluster bomb was a type of M46 cluster bomb, a remnant of a cluster bomb from the Siamese invasion war. It is stated that the village area was affected by cluster bombs from both wars in 2025.

He added that after the ceasefire agreement between the two countries, the CMAC’s expert forces cleared the residential areas of the village to ensure safety and surrounded them with signs. Forest areas behind villages and some agricultural areas continue to be a priority.

The Director-General of the Cambodian Mine Action Center expressed his condolences for the deaths of innocent civilians killed by the Siamese cluster munitions, which are in violation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use of Cluster Munitions in the City of Oslo.
