Kampong Thom: The Kampong Thom Provincial Illegal Fishing Suppression Command held a meeting to summarize and evaluate the results of work to prevent, prevent, and suppress fishing crimes during the 2025-2026 fishing season and to propose further measures for the 2026 fishing season, which will begin on June 1 and end on September 30, 2026.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ung Vuthy, Deputy Provincial Governor and Chairman of the Command to Suppress Illegal Fishing Crimes in Tonle Sap Lake, Kampong Thom Province, and Major General Som Sun, Deputy Commander of the Military Operations Area and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial Committee for the Protection, Prevention and Suppression of Natural Resources Crimes, and with the participation of the Director of the Provincial Department of Environment, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, district and commune authorities, and relevant officials who attended upon invitation. 

Major General Som Sun, as the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Committee for the Protection, Prevention and Suppression of Natural Resources Crimes of Kampong Thom Province, reported on some important results that the joint forces of the Joint Command have achieved in suppressing fishing crimes in the Tonle Sap Lake area in the geographical areas of Phat Sanday and Peam Bang communes, Stoung district, Kampong Thom province, as well as some other areas in Kampong Thom province, where the joint forces have cooperated with friendly units of the Joint Command to suppress illegal fishing crimes in the Tonle Sap Lake area. Taking action to crack down on fishing crimes has achieved successful results that are worthy of pride. Currently, the general public is appreciative that the fish harvest has gradually returned to abundance. 

Mr. Chin Sitha, head of the Kampong Thom Provincial Fisheries Administration, thanked all the forces who worked together to fulfill their duties with a high sense of responsibility, joining fisheries experts in protecting, preventing and suppressing fishing crimes, achieving good results for the national interest. And all Cambodian people. At the same time, the Fisheries District Chief also highlighted the announcement of the 2026 fishing season, which will begin tomorrow, June 1st, until September 30th, 2026, and requested the combined forces to continue to work together to successfully implement it again.

Then, the meeting, which included the chief of Phat Sanday commune, Kampong Svay district, the chief of Peam Bang commune Stoung District and the territorial authorities of the two districts, as well as expert officials from the three armed forces and relevant officials in the Illegal Fishing Suppression Command, discussed and thoroughly evaluated the results of preventing, preventing, and suppressing illegal fishing during the 2025-2026 fishing season, agreeing to evaluate the success of the initiative by reducing fishing crimes by approximately 70 to 80 percent. He also raised some challenges that need to be resolved together in the future.

Mr. Ung Wutthy, Deputy Provincial Governor and Chairman of the Illegal Fishing Suppression Command in Stoung and Kampong Svay districts in the Tonle Sap region, expressed his appreciation to Major General Som Sun, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Committee for the Protection, Prevention and Suppression of Natural Resources Crimes of Kampong Thom Province, as well as officials from relevant departments and institutions, along with the three armed forces, who have jointly implemented the orders of Mr. Nuon Pharath, Provincial Governor and Chairman of the Kampong Thom Provincial Administrative Unified Command, with great success. At the same time, Mr. Ung Wutthy also agreed on the evaluation of the results of the suppression of illegal fishing crimes, which have been successful, with the number of crimes decreasing by 70 to 80 percent, and set out some necessary directions and measures to be taken together with other relevant institutions and organizations to solve the challenges in accordance with the requests of the people and the implementation of the Fisheries Law and regulations. To be effective for the national society and for all of us Cambodian people.
