Phnom Penh: Mr. Tep Asnarith, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information, has called on Cambodian youth to participate in the national campaign against fake news by acting as active “propaganda agents” in preventing the spread of fake news that is threatening information security and social order.

The call was made at an orientation meeting on “Public Information Work and Implementation of the Say No to Fake News Campaign, Step 2” at the Kampong Thom Provincial Information Department on June 5, 2026.

Mr. Tep Asnarith instructed the Kampong Thom Provincial Information Department As well as provincial and capital departments across the country, they have strengthened the effectiveness of local information and public opinion work and have urged the successful implementation of the second phase of the anti-fake news campaign according to the established procedures and methods. He emphasized that the implementation of this second phase of the campaign is very important to contribute to information and public opinion work by focusing on educating students of secondary schools and high schools in the capital and provinces to prevent and protect themselves from socially harmful information.

«All capital and provincial information departments must inspire an information safety approach to young people And encourage them to participate in preventing and eliminating fake news by receiving information literacy knowledge from the campaign and participating in making short video messages themselves to share knowledge related to methods of preventing fake news on Facebook, TikTok and Telegram, etc. .

The Undersecretary of State added: “Youth is a driving force in increasing the sense of responsibility in using and sharing information in society. To jointly create a safe digital environment free from misinformation. Youth have an important role to play in contributing to promoting digital literacy and creating positive content in response to social media manipulation.”
Mr. Tep Asnarith stated that currently, among the more than 17 million Cambodians, approximately 59 percent of young people use Facebook, while more than 30 percent of Gen Z youth (aged 14-29) use TikTok. Therefore, their presence as evangelists or promoters will contribute significantly to sharing true information and information literacy knowledge for the benefit of schools, families, and can protect their communities from the dangers of fake news.
The Say No to Fake News Campaign, Phase 2, under the theme “Strengthening Information Literacy and Media for Information Security” was officially launched on May 18, 2026 at Samdech Hun Sen Bun Rany High School, Wat Phnom, under the chairmanship of Mr. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information. This Phase 2 campaign has opened a new page in encouraging and motivating students as well as all Cambodian youth to become “information security agents” and “leading forces” in jointly fighting fake news.
Please note that as of June 7, 2026, the Phase 2 campaign has been and is traveling to high schools and secondary schools in Phnom Penh, Preah Vihear province, and will continue to other provinces throughout the country in 2026.
