Phnom Penh: Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the acting head of state of Cambodia, has officially named the Sla Kram temporary center in Svay Chek district as “Waiting Village”.
During a meeting with displaced people at the Sla Kram temporary center in Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province on June 9, 2026, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that despite the official name “Waiting Village”, Samdech Techo clearly stated that he will not give up on reclaiming Cambodian land, as land must be reclaimed only for the people.

Samdech Techo said, “Now, first of all, I want to declare the name. Why do we have to build a house? What should this house, this village be named? I request you to know that we are not building this village and giving up our land claims. I request that this village be called the Waiting Village.”
With the declaration of the name as the Waiting Village, Samdech Techo also proposed that there be a Waiting Village 1 or Waiting Village 2 because this village is spacious for the living of the displaced people in creating various jobs.

Samdech Techo emphasized that the Cambodian territory that Thai soldiers are illegally invading and occupying must be reclaimed, but there are only two ways to reclaim this claim: the first is by using military force and the second is through peaceful negotiations.
