Phnom Penh: Samdech Maha Bovorathei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, has stressed that war cannot solve problems and that ultimately only negotiation and maintaining peace are the most important factors.

Samdech Maha Bovorathei Hun Manet’s remarks Manet, on the occasion of allowing Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, to pay a courtesy call and discuss work on June 9, 2026, during her official visit and participation in the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

During this meeting, Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed her appreciation for Cambodia’s expertise In clearing mines and unexploded ordnance left over from the war. She added that clearing mines and unexploded ordnance is a time-consuming and resource-intensive task.

The Under-Secretary-General also praised the capabilities and experience of Cambodian forces, who have actively participated in peacekeeping operations under the United Nations umbrella in many countries, which demonstrates Cambodia’s willingness to participate in peacekeeping and share this good experience with the world. She also recalled her memories and mission of coming to Cambodia before 1991 to help facilitate the repatriation of Cambodian refugees back to their homeland.

In response, the King also informed the Deputy Secretary-General about the achievements that Cambodia has made in clearing mines and unexploded ordnance. and Cambodia’s success in hosting the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World of the Ottawa Convention in Siem Reap in late November 2024.
At the same time, His Majesty recalled the consequences of the war that Cambodia has experienced in the past and emphasized that war cannot solve problems and that ultimately only negotiation and maintaining peace are the most important factors.
The President and the Under-Secretary-General also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues and agreed on the importance of resolving issues peacefully, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
The President also briefed her on the latest developments on the Cambodian-Thai border situation. And underlines Cambodia’s commitment and position to resolve this border issue peacefully, based on international law and in accordance with existing conventions, treaties and agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
