Phnom Penh: General Secretary of the National Narcotics Control Authority, General Meas Virith, said that although drugs in Cambodia are under control, the crackdown must be intensified.
In a training program on “Drug Knowledge” for officials of the General Secretariat of the National Assembly on June 11, 2026, General Meas Virith said that the drug problem continues to exist in Cambodia, but it is not widespread and that is a mistake.
He said that although it is not widespread, everyone must participate in preventing the drug problem both domestically and from abroad.

He stated that participation from all sectors is the most important tool in the fight against the drug problem. So do not be mistaken that only the police or authorities can solve this problem.
General Meas Virith said, “Participating in the fight against drugs requires participation, not one police or authority working alone to be successful. There must be participation from all sectors. Do not consider the drug problem to be the responsibility of the authorities, the police or law enforcement officers, we all must participate in prevention and control.”
It should be noted that in 2025, law enforcement units and related institutions cooperated both nationally and internationally to strengthen the effectiveness of law enforcement, leading to the destruction of drug criminal organizations. In fact, the police forces, both nationally and internationally, have suppressed more than 10,000 cases of drug crimes and arrested nearly 30,000 suspects.
