Phnom Penh: Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, and Mr. Elchin Amirbayov, Presidential Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Special Affairs, highly appreciated the good cooperative relations between the two countries (Cambodia-Azerbaijan) that have existed for a long time and are based on mutual trust, respect, and understanding for the benefit of both countries and common interests. Cambodia and Azerbaijan share the same views and will to promote security, focusing on the interests of the people.

This statement was made during the meeting of the President of the National Assembly with Mr. Elchin Amirbayov and his colleagues on May 13, 2026, during which he led a delegation to pay a working visit to Cambodia.

The President emphasized that “in recent times, our bilateral relations and cooperation have developed significantly through continuous exchanges and meetings between leaders and senior officials, especially the friendship groups of the two countries’ parliaments. The two countries’ national parliaments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2022 during the official visit of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Cambodia.

The head of the delegation highlighted that these two meetings provided another opportunity for the two countries to strengthen deeper and more active cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, tourism, agriculture, etc. He hoped that the Prime Minister of Cambodia would visit Azerbaijan in October 2026. This visit will open a new page that will further strengthen cooperation between the two countries after the visit of Samdech Techo Hun Sen to Azerbaijan in 2014.
