Phnom Penh: In the first four months of 2026, the General Department of Identification has collaborated with the provincial and capital administrations to provide Cambodian identity cards to more than 1.2 million Cambodians, including approximately 150,000 Cambodians who have recently returned from Thailand.
Following the Ministry of Interior’s directive on promoting the provision of identity documents to Cambodians who have recently returned from Thailand and Cambodians who do not yet have sufficient documents, as well as the Ministry of Interior’s decision on the appointment of a working group to lead, support, monitor, and promote the provision of Cambodian identity cards and other identity documents of the Ministry of Interior, the General Department of Identification has collaborated with the provincial and capital administrations to continue to strengthen and accelerate the provision of identification services to citizens in an efficient and timely manner, which reflects the attention of the Royal Government and the Ministry of Interior to guarantee the rights and legality of all citizens.
In the past four months In early 2026, the General Department of Identification provided identity documents to Cambodian citizens in general and Cambodian citizens who had recently returned from Thailand, including: 165,169 birth registrations, 78,084 females, and 152,693 residence registrations, 67,559 females.
At the same time, the results of providing Cambodian identity cards to Cambodian citizens totaled 1,290,369, including approximately 150,000 Cambodian citizens who had returned from Thailand.
In particular, for citizens returning to Thailand who could not be identified and were denied registration, there were a total of 132 applications, including 49 females.
The General Department of Identification continued to appeal to citizens who do not yet have sufficient identity documents or have problems related to identity documents to come and request services at the commune, sangkat, or city, district, or khan police stations. or the provincial police headquarters to receive coordination and provide services easily, quickly, and transparently.
